Keeping Shoppers Cool – Retail Cooling Hire
The Challenge
We were contacted by the facilities management team who oversee a huge retail giant. One of the stores; based in London is in the process of replacing the existing chillers systems.
The replacement works would leave this large scale, busy store without cooling for several weeks. This store has high traffic as well as customer stay length being significant; meaning in the heat of summer this would be an uncomfortably hot store experience.
The Solution
As the large scale retail shop had no windows or doors to reject heat out of, we could not utilise portable AC units as we usually would for this kind of environment. However, evaporative units paired with dehumidifiers were a great alternative, offering a powerful cooling option for the client. The units were then distributed in key locations, which were decided on, during a site survey with both our customer and the retail store manager present.
Dehumidifiers were then also provided to counteract the effect of the evaporative units in the areas where air flow was low. The prevented water in the air negatively effecting the products in store.
The evaporative units were distributed around the shop floor at key locations (where customers converge or linger) to ensure their was a significant cooling affect for the public as they moved around the store.

- 8 x EVAP 5000s
- 3 x Dehumidifiers
The Result
As customers now walk through the shop floor, there is significant cooling provided by the equipment. This means that the public are not deterred from shopping and the store can remain fully operational during the chiller install period. Combatting moisture in the air with dehumidifiers and giving the customer the required cooling throughout the hire.
