Heating and Hot Water provision for Large Scale Residential Buildings
The Challenge
As part of a scheduled infrastructure upgrade, our client needed to shut down their central plant boilers to carry out a full flue replacement. These permanent boilers provided heating and hot water to several residential blocks, serving hundreds of flats.
With the central system offline for six weeks, they required a temporary boiler hire solution that could deliver consistent performance and zero disruption to residents — all while navigating tight logistical constraints on site.

The Solution
Celsius Hire delivered a high-capacity, fully managed 3.8MW temporary boiler hire package, including:
-
2 x 1.3MW Boilers
-
2 x 600kW Boilers
-
Each boiler with its own plate heat exchanger and dedicated fuel tank
This multi-unit setup was specifically designed for resilience and reliability, ensuring seamless operation even if one boiler required maintenance.
Logistics & Installation:
The equipment needed to be sited along a narrow access road, meaning standard delivery wasn’t an option. We used 3 HIAB lorries and trailers, carefully transferring equipment HIAB-to-HIAB to reach the final position — a true test of coordination and planning. Find out more how we work with your site to make delivery and installation seamless.
Key install features:
-
Over 200 metres of 4″ hose connected each boiler’s flow and return to the basement plant room
-
Each boiler had individual pipework running to it’s plate heat exchanger, into a common flow/return system
-
A permanent cold feed was run from the plant room to each unit
-
Installation was completed within 4 working days
Throughout the boiler hire period, we also provided full fuel management, giving the client peace of mind that the system would stay operational and efficient.
The Result
Space on site was limited, so careful planning was essential. We precisely mapped the boiler hire equipment layout, optimising space and access while maintaining operational safety and efficiency.
We commissioned and decommissioned the boilers exactly to the customer’s timeline. Our fuel management service ensured none of the four tanks ever ran empty.
“This project really showcased our team’s problem-solving skills — from handling tight logistics to delivering a resilient, high-capacity solution with no service interruptions. Everyone involved worked seamlessly together, and the end result spoke for itself.” Josh Clark, Sales Engineer
The result? Reliable, resilient temporary heating and hot water, with no service interruptions for the building’s occupants during the entire six-week project.
